Mum
Jean Carr (Mum)
Was born in Rockley Street, Whit Lane, Pendleton on 19/03/1937 - a twin sister to Brenda - a
daughter to Bill and Liz Redford.
At the age of 12 the family moved to Canute Road, Gorse Hill
Leaving Lostock School at the age of 15 she joined her sisters Maureen and Brenda as a machinist at
Dressiwear in Old Trafford.
That same year 1952, she first met her husband to be Peter whilst watching water polo at Trafford
Park baths.
Despite the disparity in ages - he was exactly 4 years 4 months and 23 days older, the relationship
prospered.
They became engaged whilst Dad was doing his National Service as an E R A in the Royal Navy.
Mum recalled that when they returned to his parents to show off the ring £25 from Henry Woolfes his
Mum declared £25 and you have got a hole in your shoes! - and he had!
At that time Mum converted to the Catholic faith under the guidance of Father Greenwood at St
Antony's in Trafford Park.
They married in January 1956 and they lived with his parents in Tenth Street, Trafford Park.
Stephen was born that year and the following year 1957 the new Carr family moved into Bradwell Ave.
Over the years the family grew Myself Sue, then Linda, Hilary and finally after 17 years of marriage
the twins Sarah and Joanne. During this last pregnancy Mum was in danger of losing her babies and a
good 50% of the time was spent in Park Hospital whilst the other children were looked after by
various willing relatives. Her family complete, Mums life revolved around us and we all agree that
we enjoyed our somewhat crowded childhood.
Then the next generation began to arrive, over the years from Vicki in 1979 to William in 2004, 15
Grandchildren made there entry into the world. She loved them all unreservedly and endured the
trauma of divorces and the joys of marriages with equal ease. On occasion Mum was heard to declare
we've had 6 children, 15 grandchildren, 8 marriages 4 (now 5) divorces and 2 still unmarried!!!
Tragedy touched Mum over the years, with the death of her elder sister Maureen in 1992, a sister she
describes as a best friend.
When in January 2001, her eldest Grandson, my son Chris died unexpectedly, she was distraught. It is
a terrible co-incidence that Mum collapsed on the 6th anniversary of that tragic event.
This was a Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Sister and Auntie for whom the family was paramount.
'SHE DEDICATED HER LIFE TO US AND WE ARE HER LEGACY'
God rest her soul.
I dont have a poem, nor lyrics or anything like that to write.
I'm simply writing a tribute to wish you goodnight.

That is what we were forced to do...
Although we wanted to keep you here!!!
However, this is quite a selfish wish.
One we know we should ignore...
But, we truly do believe
